Product description

The C12c compartment carriages of the Dutch Railways were introduced in 1930 to replace wooden carriages that were commonly used at the time. Between 1930 and 1931, 70 carriages were delivered, followed by another 15 in 1933. During the Second World War, a number of C12c carriages were transferred to the East.

A total of 16 carriages went missing, and in 1951, they were officially recorded as decommissioned. However, some of these carriages were used by the German Reichsbahn in the GDR after the war and remained in service there until the 1970s.

Carriage C 6437 was modified in 1944 for the transport of German wounded soldiers and was designated: 'Lazarettzug Friesland I Wehrmachtsbefehlshaber der Niederlande.' In 1945, the carriage was repainted in the Dutch Railways' livery. In The Netherlands the last C12c coupé carriages were taken out of service in 1966.
